Membership Requirements:
- You MUST be a working DJ
A very general term which means you should have a club residence, be a Billboard
Reporter, or have an on-air mixshow. Other venues such as Ice and Roller Skating Rinks
would also be considered as long as the DJ has programming power. Don't laugh - I myself
and a few label execs have careers that started in rinks back in the day. College radio
DJs, TV producers looking for foreground and background music are also encouraged to
talk to us. Everyone needs to be able to tell us exactly how they can influence the music
buying public in the Mid Atlantic Region.
If you are working mobiles and have an audience that is a "target" audience and reach
enough people to have an impact on local sales then we would like to talk to you.
To further explain: The typical wedding DJ does not have the opportunity to create a
buying frenzy on the latest releases - he tends to stay in the realm of the musically tried
and true. Whereas a mobile operator who works Fraternity & Sorority, and other campus
parties or has direct influence to a younger 15+ audience on a regular basis would be one
who would benefit from membership.
If you lose your job - as DJs always do, we have a policy in place that you have 60 days
to procure other employment. 30 days is too short and 60 is probably a tad to long. After
60 days not working, you must take a leave of absence from the pool until you are again
working. You will get a privileged position if any membership waiting list is in effect and
the first opportunity to become active before any new members are allowed to join.
Basement DJs, however talented, don't meet the requirements of public performance.
Once these DJs work a club for a while they WILL qualify.
Mixtape DJs may possibly qualify for the number of people they reach, but Mid-Atlantic
Dance WILL NOT support any DJ who violates federal copyright laws, even if some labels
do actually service them with product knowing that it goes onto mixtapes.
- Dues -
Must be paid in a timely manner. I have set the dues level to be less than one night's pay
for even a DJ working a small club. This is for a full month's worth of record service. If
you can't prioritize your finances, be prepared to not get records.
Dues will be paid by the first of the month. A $ 5.00 dollar late fee will be applied if not
paid by the 7th of the month or the first business day thereafter. After 14 days your bin
will be flagged and no records can be picked up unless and until your account is current.
Also at 14 days, any records in your bin become distributable. Even if it is not important
enough to you to get these records, it IS important for us that they are played - even if
not by you. They WILL get played and feedback will be provided.
Payment methods -
New members: Cash, Money Orders or PayPal if doing an in office sign-up. No exceptions.
Members in good standing: Cash, Money Order, Check. If check is dishonored then your
account is immediately entered into the same status as the 14 day status as mentioned
in the "Dues" section. It will behoove you to correct the situation as son as possible.
We are trying to establish a Merchant Account which will allow us to take MasterCard
and Visa. When this occurs, an automatic system will be put in place. This system will
send an email 5 days before the first of the month. This will allow you to check for any
balance problems. On the 1st your credit card account will be charged per your signup
agreement. Any accounts with a credit card problem will be immediately notified and
arrangements must be made as per above conditions - all dates and fees apply.- Paperwork
The bane of all mankind - I know! But this is a necessary evil and delinquency will not be
tolerated. All I ask is one hour a week. Give me that and there is no reason ALL of the
needed work can't be done.
CHARTS - 2 Top 25 charts per month. These are due on the 10th and the 25th of the month
or the first business day thereafter. No exceptions and no excuses. If this is not important
enough for you to put 10 minutes into twice a month, then it is not worth MY effort to pass
records out to you. A $ 5 fine will be levied if chart is not at office or my home by due date.
FEEDBACK - Required. All members serviced with product will provide feedback as
requested in a timely manner. Failure to do so results in standing in long lines in a record
store and playing radio mixes.
- PICKUPS -
All pickups MUST be made by member. Exceptions will be allowed but by prior arrangement
ONLY on each individual occasion. If feedback and/or chart is due, pickup assignee MUST
have completed paperwork to turn in before records are distributed. There will be no
exceptions. They come empty handed and it will be a wasted trip.
If you leave any records in the office over 14 days, we can only believe that you don't
want them and will find a home for them with a caring, needy DJ who WILL appreciate
the hard work we went through to get them this service.
- Grasping of the "food chain" position
To fully understand the requirements and expectations for your membership, you must
understand that record pools are at or near the bottom of the promotional food chain.
Record Pools, even the best of them, need to prove themselves again and again on a nearly
daily basis to the labels and promoters who service them. If the members do not fulfill
these meager requirements, then pool directors can't adequately do their job. The
efficiency of a record pool is DIRECTLY RELATED to the quality if its members.
You must understand the primary objective of a record pool. Many DJs believe that a
record pool is for vinyl service for the DJ. That is simply not the case.
I know this seems like a lot to remember so you should bookmark this page. This info will also be your membership agreement.
